Costume.

Overview

This is a costume for boys from the royal family. The costume was made of BASHOFU (banana fiber weaving) using HANAORI (a kind of UKIORI weaving technique - by making some parts of patterns float from JIKUMIORI (the base of weaving), the patterns look like flowers -) Banana fibers were dyed in bright scarlet, and the square and lozenge patterns were expressed in HANAORI. According to the optics research, safflower was used to create the noble scarlet color for dyeing. Because of that weaving HANAORI by using hard banana fibers requires the advanced skill and that the bright color usage, this costume was considered as the special costume for the royal family.
